Are you ready to bring harmony back into your and your dog’s life?

Hi, I’m eddy.

I am a certified, positive reinforcement and force-free dog trainer and behaviour specialist based in Newton Abbot. I offer 121 in person and online sessions to people struggling with their dog’s behaviour.

I am passionate about helping dogs reach their full potential no matter what their background or breed is, as well as helping owners find their peace of mind. Having struggled with our dog’s behavioural challenges ourselves (including hyperactivity, fearfulness, noise and movement sensitivity, excessive barking, lead pulling, lunging and reactivity towards children and adults) I can relate to many owners who might be at their wits’ end with their pup. This is what inspires me to help others as owning a dog, especially if it’s your first one or you are experiencing issues such as dog to dog or dog to human reactivity, can be very challenging, and even isolating.

I’d like to help you take the first steps into training your pup, transform their behaviour, and make this journey a positive and beautiful one for you and your dog. Whether you have a new puppy you need help with, a dog that barks at everything, an adult dog that had a rough start to life, or you simply want to teach your dog some fun tricks - I can help you make a plan that fits your lifestyle and change you and your dog’s life for the better.

Please read about my approach to training below and note my sessions will always be judgment-free but please also come with an open mind to learn new things.

ACCREDITATIONS

As the science behind dog cognition, behaviour and training continues to grow, constant education is essential in the dog training industry. Apart from having graduated from the prestigious Victoria Stillwell’s Dog Training Academy, I am a member of and I am continually learning from the Grisha Stewart Academy. I have also completed Michael Shikashio’s Aggression in Dogs Master Course to expand my knowledge of working with more severe reactivity and aggression cases. I also continue to educate myself by carrying out my own research, attending webinars and talks by other experienced and qualified trainers to supplement my knowledge.

My Approach

I believe that dog training is a journey of growth for you and your dog and with that, we have an amazing opportunity to build a lifelong bond whether we’re working on basic manners or working on reactivity such as barking at other dogs, barking at people, pulling and lunging towards others. I’m passionate about the science behind dog cognition and behaviour and with that, I always aim to use the most ethical and up to date training methods available. A lot of behaviour is rooted in wellbeing so I love to work with my clients to help them raise happy and motivated dogs. I love watching dogs thrive and focus greatly on setting them up for success and taking the right approach for your dog to gain confidence and for you to gain voluntary engagement from your dog (i.e. ignore distractions and focus on YOU!). This is a part often missed in training dogs with issues such as reactivity and it’s integral for successful behaviour modification.

My sessions will always be judgment-free as I work with you to not only train your dog but also teach you how to continue your dogs training and grow the skillset you need to be your dog’s trainer for life!

What is force-free?

Force-free / positive reinforcement / R+ dog training method is a modern and science based dog training style out there. It avoids the use of fear, intimidation, and physical punishment with dogs. It has been proven that punishing bad behaviours is not a long-term solution and actually causes the dog stress, anxiety and fear. Positive reinforcement training takes into account the dog’s strengths, well-being and focuses on reinforcing & rewarding the desired behaviours. With this approach, we work at the dog’s pace without the need for physical force or intimidation - no matter what the issue or training goal is - and help the dog learn to make the right decisions in any situation by themselves.

For far too long unnecessary punitive dog training methods have been favoured and unfortunately still happen nowadays on a very large scale. You can rest assured that your dog’s well-being is my utmost priority and I would never use uncalled for tools such as prong or shock collars with your dog or yank your dog on the lead.
